Here are two babies from Liberty Humane Society who need loving Hoboken homes:
Allegra is a gentle, affectionate gal in search of her forever home. It’s clear that humans didn’t treat her very well in the past, but she still trusts anyone she meets and is always eager to return affection with a shower of kisses.
Allegra craves human interaction and cherishes every moment she spends with volunteers. The other night, for instance, a volunteer (whom she had never met before) approached her in her cage, where she was busy chewing a bone. When the cage door was opened, Allegra dropped the bone in the volunteer’s hand and waited patiently while he put a leash on her. Once outside, she walked perfectly on the leash and relished the time she spent resting in the volunteer’s lap. Despite her size, she is a true lap dog!
Given her abusive past, Allegra gets a little scared of unusual and new things, so she may choose to hide behind her handler. As long as her future family patiently introduces her to new experiences, she will quickly become more comfortable. Although she is polite, playful, and interested in kids, her shyness might make her more comfortable in a household with teenagers and up. In general, Allegra is really a people-centric pooch, and is not particularly interested in other dogs.
If you’re looking for a major cuddlebug, Allegra is your girl! Please come stop by Liberty Humane today and consider making Allegra a part of your family. You won’t regret it!

Happy is a very serene, calm cat who absolutely loves human attention. Unfortunately, her former owners surrendered her to LHS due to “landlord problems.” It’s very clear from her social demeanor that she loved being in a home! When she first arrived at LHS, she was unwilling to eat without being petted by staff. Now, staff and volunteers happily pet and massage her while she eats. Happy seems to appreciate it a great deal as she will gobble down her entire bowl when she has companionship.
A friendly gal, Happy has a moderate amount of energy. From time to time, you may catch her explode into action when she gets into playful mode! Because of her Zen-like attitude, Happy would be a suitable companion for humans of any age.
If you’re looking for a sweet, calm companion…come visit Happy!
