A friend and I recently visited the Elysian Cafe for brunch. Although I have usually gone to the Elysian for an after work drink or delish dinner (they make a great scallops dish and mussels for all of you seafood lovers), I figured why not try out brunch!
Water came in a canister, my fave:
We ordered two glasses of champagne (off-the-beaten path of brunch drinks, I know). They did have Bellinis, Bloody Mary’s, Mimosas, and wine on the menu as well…but it was Saturday! It felt like a champagne day.
While I wish I could say we were super adventurous with our orders, my brunch buddy and I ended up ordering the same thing:
A Grilled Chicken Sandwich.
Chicken, Bacon, Tomato, Avocado on Focaccia – $10.75 each. While I do find that a bit pricey, I will say it was delicious, and I was able to take half of it home…so technically it served as two meals. $10.75/2 = $5.375 per meal. Not bad, not bad at all if you can ask for a doggie bag.
There were tons of other yummy-sounding options: Cinnamon-Amaretto French Toast, Eggs Florentine, Salmon Eggs Benedict, Croque Madame…the list goes on.
I definitely would recommend a trip here. It’s a mixed crowd (strollers and young professionals), the food is tasty, and the drinks are flowing. Food is priced from $8 a dish to $16.50 for a grilled sirloin salad. Elysian is usually crowded, but we didn’t have to wait more than 15 minutes for a table. Overall a successful trip, and it got me thinking that champagne isn’t half bad for a midday twist!
